Floor Pendulum Slip Testing
Recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Pendulum Slip Test (BS EN 16165: 2021) is the UK’s standard method for assessing floor slipperiness in both wet and dry conditions. It measures slip potential for barefoot or shod foot traffic using a swinging imitation heel that contacts the floor surface under controlled conditions.
Each test involves 15 swings in three directions (0°, 45°, and 90°), producing an average Pendulum Test Value (PTV) rated as:
- 24 and below: High slip risk
- 25–35: Moderate slip risk
- 36+: Low slip risk
We carry out mobile testing on-site for baths, shower trays, or any flooring surface, using fully calibrated pendulum equipment meeting HSE and UK Slip Resistance Group (Issue 6, 2024) standards. All equipment complies with BS EN 1097-2020, BS EN 13036-4:2011, BS EN 16165, and ASTM E303-93. Calibration certificates are available on request.
Sample Tile Testing
Our in-house laboratory offers testing of floor samples to ensure compliance before installation—saving time and cost on remedial work.
- British Standard (BS EN 16165: 2021): One 200mm x 200mm tile, tested in three directions.
- European CE Marking (BS EN 14231): Six 200mm x 200mm stone samples, tested in two directions (0° and 180°).
